THE MEPHISTO WALTZ - Fred Mustard Stewart
Description from Amazon:
Duncan Ely, and aging concert pianist, and his beautiful daughter befriend Myles Clarkson, a freelance writer who once aspired to the piano; Myles wife watches with apprehension turning to terror as Myles comes more and more under Ely's domination, as their lives are increasingly manipulated -- before Ely's death, and even more afterwards.
Originally trained as a concert pianist, Mr. Stewart drew on this background for his first novel, “The Mephisto Waltz” (Coward-McCann), published in 1969. (The publicity materials for the book included a 45-r.p.m. recording of Mr. Stewart playing the title piece, by Liszt.) In 1971, the book became a film with Alan Alda.
