Cardboard Coffin Press is actively asking and accepting submissions for our first short story collection: CHILDHOOD FEARS.

We’re looking for stories with kids as the main characters finding themselves in scary situations. We’re talking sinister schools, bat-shit crazy babysitters, crazed cartoons coming to life. What’s crawling out from under the bed? What’s creeping out of the closet?

• 2,500 - 7,000 words

• No extreme horror or splatterpunk

  • Lean toward an R rating at max

  • While kids can die, we welcome you to submit your Playground fan fiction elsewhere

• Payment for printed stories is $30 and two paperbacks for US residents

  • An agreement will be worked out with non US residents

• Deadline is 5/31/2026

• Anticipated publication date is 10/31/2026

• Author retains rights to their story

• No use of AI

  • If you’ve published books with AI covers, you will not be considered
